AMERICAN
HEART ASSOCIATION (AHA) COURSES
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge
and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed
instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these
materials in an educational course does not represent
course sponsorship by the American Heart Association,
and any fees charged for such a course do not represent
income to the association. |

Family & Friends® CPR
This AHA course is designed to teach the skills of CPR
for victims of all ages and relief of choking. For
family members, friends and members of the general
community who want to learn CPR but do not need a
course completion card. |

Heartsaver® AED
This AHA course is designed to teach the skills of CPR
for victims of all ages, use of an automated external
defibrillator and relief of choking. For employees
and/or designated first responders who have a duty
to respond to a cardiac emergency and must have a
credential (card) documenting successful completion
of a CPR course. |

Heartsaver® First
Aid with CPR & AED
This AHA course is designed to teach the skills of adult
first aid, CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated
external defibrillator and relief of choking. For employees
and/or designated first responders who have a duty to
respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency and must
have a credential (card) documenting successful completion
of a CPR course. |

Basic Life Support
(BLS) for Healthcare Providers
This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR
for victims of all ages, use of an automated external
defibrillator and relief of choking. For healthcare
providers who must have a credential (card) documenting
successful completion of a CPR course.

The Upland Hills Health Diabetes Education
Program has been Recognized by the American Diabetes
Association for Quality Self-Management Education*. |

These group classes are open to anyone
recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes,
who’ve not had formal diabetes management education.
Topics covered include: |

• Blood Glucose Monitoring
• Blood Glucose Pattern Management
• Carbohydrate Counting
• Diabetes Complications
• Diabetes Medications
• Diet
• Exercise
• Foot Care
• Heart Health
• Stress Management and much more… |

You will also receive a personalized food
plan from a registered dietitian. The classes are taught
by a registered nurse and a registered dietitian and
are accredited by the American Diabetes Association.
Most insurance companies will cover diabetes self-management
education. |

Anyone who has taken a series of group
classes as described above, or has had individual diabetes
education is eligible to take a Diabetes Refresher
Course.
This Course, taught in a group setting, is designed to
be a fun way to refresh and enforce diabetes self-management
education. 2010 refreshers offered are: |

Diabetes Prevention Classes are
open to anyone wanting to learn ways to lessen their
chances or a loved one’s chances of developing
diabetes. These classes will focus on lifestyle changes
aimed at reducing the chances of developing Type II diabetes.
Perfect for pre-diabetics or those with high risk factors.
A fee of $40 for each two-class session applies. Diabetes
Prevention Classes are offered on the following schedule

whose life is affected by diabetes. This common ailment
can be very stressful, for both the patient and his or
her loved ones. Support Groups are offered on the following

New Parent Support Group begins at Upland
Hills Health |
| |
Upland Hills Health and the Family Resource
Center of Iowa County have teamed up to develop a support
group for new parents. |
| |
Anyone with a child from 0 to 12 months
old is invited and encouraged to participate in the fun
and informative meetings. Refreshments will be served
and experiences shared. A great way to meet new moms
and dads, group discussions will focus on the joys and
challenges of your new role as a parent. Guest speakers
and discussion topics will be influenced by the group
participants. |

Educator, will facilitate the program called Parenting:
The First Year. |

The meetings take place on the first and
third Monday of each month and are held from noon to
1:30 pm in the Upland Hills Health Center Café.
(Take the South Driveway and proceed to the Specialty
Clinic Entrance. Take the stairs or elevator down to
the café.) |

| |
Our Birthing Unit offers many support programs
for new and expectant parents. For more information

Childbirth Education: Covers relaxation
exercises, hospital routines, changes during pregnancy,
labor, delivery, postpartum, breastfeeding and much more. Includes
infant CPR and safety. Fee is $40 per couple. |

Pre-delivery Conference: An opportunity
to begin your hospital admission paperwork, assess learning
needs and answer questions before your arrival for a
delivery. Free. |

Sibling Class: A chance for big brothers
and sisters to learn more about the birth of their newest
family members. Free. |
| |
Breastfeeding Support: Designed to
educate and support mothers who are nursing or who plan
to nurse. Free. |
| |
Breastfeeding Supplies: Rental of
electric breast pumps and other breastfeeding and expression
supplies are available for purchase from the Birthing

Take steps for better foot care |
| |
CrestRidge Assisted Living is offering
a “Foot Care Clinic,” the third Tuesday of
every month. This is a nice program, offering a
foot bathe, toenail trimming and lotion application by
a registered nurse. The fee is $15, payable with
cash or check. An appointment can be scheduled by
calling 935-0211. If there is time, walk-ins will
be taken on a first-come, first serve basis. Proper
foot care is particularly important for those with diabetes. CrestRidge
and Upland Hills Health are partners, working together
to advance senior services in our area. CrestRidge
is located at 219 E. Grace Street, Dodgeville. To

'Reach to Recovery' is a support program
organized by the American Cancer Society with local volunteers
providing one-on-one support to victims of breast cancer.
